I tried to watch some of the news at ABC.com (really ABC.go.com) and failed. They deliver video in Flash 9 format, but their OS detection scheme rejects Linux users.

Okay, turned on the Mac. Their videos run on a Mac -- but 30 second pre-roll *and* 30 second post-roll spots on a 2:30 newsclip? Isn't that a bit much?

Of course, since I'm 54 my opinion doesn't matter. I'm too old (and no doubt have too much disposable income) to meet their target audience metric. And since ABC's intention is to hire "young" reporters, I'm sure I would not be eligible for a job there, either.

The funniest thing is, despite all this talk about youth and newness, ABC is still running a radio-style anchored newscast instead of basing their 'cast on location video, still using a scheduled posting time instead of posting news when it happens, and generally being the same old old media while yakking about how new they are.

Maybe they'll have lots of skateboard blooper videos or beach volleyball coverage. That'll drag in the youngsters, yah, you betcha!

:)
