Japan Media Review is looking for freelancers based in Japan to write about journalism in Japan.

We're not looking for columns, opinion or first-person pieces -- just traditional news reporting. We will consider pitches from reporters who have substantial experience writing trend pieces for daily newspapers, magazines or online news organizations.

We'd like to hear about developments in journalism in Japan that have a technology, Internet, wireless, or convergence angle. Many of our stories will focus on talking to people in the media about where their industry is going in light of emerging technologies.

We are also interested in more general stories about how journalism is being produced, distributed and consumed in Japan. We're interested in stories about journalism ethics, journalism education, the business of journalism, about new and proposed laws that affect the media and about the politics and history of journalism in Japan.

Story Queries
Send your story queries to editor@japanmediareview.com. Please attach a résumé and recent clips. Proposals should be three to four paragraphs, outlining sources you will contact and how the topic will be explored.

Length
We commission articles of up to 1,500 words, with occasional exceptions. We pay 50 cents per word for in-depth trend pieces.

Format
Stories should be submitted in attached Word documents. Please include relevant links in your story and attach .jpg headshots of your sources. Other art is welcome. We do not pay for photos. We request that you ask your sources to give you photos we can run with the story.

Fact Checking
JMR does not have fact checkers. We rely on authors to ensure the veracity of their statements. JMR reserves the right to edit stories and to revise spelling and style as necessary to conform to our standards. For more information on style, please see the JMR Style Guide.

Unless otherwise informed, we assume any article submitted to us is being offered exclusively, and that no article accepted for publication will be published elsewhere simultaneously in any form without our knowledge.

Academic Research
JMR is interested in republishing scholarly articles about Japanese media. If you have a paper we can publish or link to, please send it to editor@japanmediareview.com. Please indicate where the article was previously published and whether you own the copyright. If you do not own the copyright, please include information about where we can get permission to republish. Please also include a brief biography and a publication-quality .jpg photo of yourself (headshots only, please).
