Mobile data services are gaining popularity in Europe, where some 35 million cell phone users have signed up for news feeds, downloads and other services via their cell phones.

The increasing popularity of cell phone-based data services is good news for many of the content and software companies that sell ringtones, games, content management platforms and other software to mobile carriers in Japan.

Some of Japan's third-party software and content companies are now finding some success selling their wares to wireless carriers overseas, according to this video report from Daniel Scuka at Wireless Watch Japan.

"Tokyo-based content aggregators and smaller software application and service providers are finding some success overseas," Scuka says, "although it's still a tough market."

In this video report, Scuka talks to three of the companies that are selling software and content to European mobile phone services.

These companies "have recently started to earn honest-to-goodness cash revenues in Europe," Scuka says.
