Blogs good for journalism, writes Guardian columnist

Via Guardian Unlimited: Columnist John Naughton writes about how "large swathes of the journalistic profession ... are still in denial about blogging. In that sense, they resemble music industry executives circa 1999, denying the significance of online file-sharing. ... Blogging won't wipe out journalism, for the simple reason that journalism requires skills and resources that bloggers will never have," said Naughton. Blogs are good for journalism because they spread "good reporting and intelligent commentary ... like wildfire," and they give the public an opportunity to attract more attention than letters to the editor, wrote Naughton, who called this phenomenon "a small but significant change in our media ecology."
