Cities use Web to report news
More and more California cities are turning to the Web to tell their stories, reports the
Los Angeles Times. Officials from such cities as Bellflower, Cupertino and Irvine cite a lack of interest from mainstream news media in their city's news as the motivation for creating Web sites to communicate with residents. According to Larry Pryor, director of
USC's online journalism program, these cities are following the model of the traditional community papers that offered news about local affairs.
