Yahoo launches beta version of multimedia search engine

Via I Want Media: Yahoo has unveiled the beta version of its video search engine, which enables users to search through video clips across the Web in Quicktime, Windows Media and Real Media. CNET News reports that many search engines are dipping into this market, including Google and AOL, to name a few. The market for multimedia search is growing, thanks to broadband connections and high demand for entertainment online. Search engines adopting this technology will also be privy to a new source of online advertising revenues, as commercials before and after video clips will serve as a new source of revenue. Once standardized, RSS will also become a part of multimedia news searching. "We're announcing support for Media RSS to allow individuals, publishers and content owners to alert us to their content," said Bradley Horowitz, director of multimedia search and desktop at Yahoo.
