From news publisher to convener: Making the shift to build community in Iowa

OJR reader announces new venture for self-employed women.
According to Strombeck, "A recent study by the National Association for the Self-Employed found that the number of women business owners continues to grow among the baby boomer generation." She adds that there are nearly four million women business owners who are 40 plus.
The TIP$ Community was developed to meet the unique challenges that Boomer women face when starting or running a small business. Many have always wanted to turn a deeply held passion into a business but were forced to put it on hold. They may be seeking financial independence, stimulation and self-fulfillment, or may have been forced into early retirement. But one thing unites these women: their desire to turn a dream into reality.
When women join the TIP$ Community, they have access to special resources for finding and interacting with other women who share similar passions and interests. Among the tools and resources members can access:
- Business how-to guides tailored to the unique needs of Boomer women entrepreneurs
- Discussion forum for networking, exchanging ideas and getting advice
- Comprehensive resource center with useful articles, publications and weblinks
- Monthly TIP$ Community News
- On-line store featuring books and specialty fun products for Boomer women
- The Business Profiles section where members can profile and promote their businesses to consumers.
"We launched our site after extensive research," says Strombeck. "We feel that TIP$ will become the 'go to' site on the web for any woman who is serious about starting a business after age 40."
