BOOKS
Alphabetical by author's last name

1. Journalism

"Digital Dilemmas: Ethical Issues for Online Media Professionals," by Robert I. Berkman and Christopher A. Shumway (Blackwell, 2003).

"Living in the Information Age: A New Media Reader," by Erik P. Bucy, Ed. (Wadsworth, 2001).

"Digital Journalism: Emerging Media & the Changing Horizons of Journalism," by Kevin Kawamoto, Ed. (Rowman & Littlefield, 2003).

"Web Journalism: Practice and Promise of a New Medium," by James Glen Stovall (Pearson/Allyn & Bacon, 2004).

"Journalism Online," by Mike Ward (Focal Press, 2002).

2. Skills

"The Non-Designer's Web Book" (2nd ed.), by Robin Williams and John Tollett (Peachpit Press, 2000).
Becoming a bit dated, but very popular with beginner students.

"Robin Williams Web Design Workshop," by Robin Williams, John Tollett and Dave Rohr (Peachpit Press, 2001).
More book, more money, more advanced.

"HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS" (Visual QuickStart Guide, 5th ed.), by Elizabeth Castro (Peachpit Press, 2003).
Our favorite HTML book at the University of Florida. Includes good information about CSS and JavaScript.

Various books on how to use Dreamweaver. Some educators encourage the students to choose a book that appeals to them.

"Photoshop 7/ImageReady for the Web: Hands-On Training (H.O.T.)," by Lynda Weinman and Jan Kabili (Peachpit Press, 2002).
The best information on using Photoshop for Web design, although the book is expensive.
