Guidelines for Writers on OJR

Online Journalism Review insists that all registered users who submit content to the site abide by the following rules:

Do not plagiarize

Do not pass off someone else's words as your own. Attribute all information you get from other sources, including people, websites or offline publications.

Respect copyrights

If you want to tell people about an article elsewhere, please provide a hyperlink, rather than copying and pasting the entire article. You may not republish someone else's copyrighted material on this site.

To hyperlink an article, use the following code in your post,
<a href="website_address">your link text</a>

Here's an example:

Disclose conflicts; no impersonation

We insist that all readers who post to OJR do so under their real names.

If you work for or have a personal or business relationship with the subject of an article upon which you are commenting, mention it. Readers deserve to know the relationship between a writer and his or her subject.

To that end, you must not attempt to impersonate another individual, or to omit information from your post or profile that would lead a reader to believe that you are someone other than who you are. This includes attempts to create multiple accounts (aka "sock puppetry.")

No harassment

Treat other people like you want to be treated. Write with dignity, economy and class. Or wait until you've cooled down to the point where you can. Do not submit comments with obscenity, profanity or hate speech.

We also will not tolerate members who use any means, including offline communication and messages to third parties, to intimidate or harass fellow members over their posting on OJR.

In addition, your postings to OJR may not include incentives of any kind for other users to click on ads which are displayed on the site. This includes encouraging other readers to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers' sites, as well as drawing any undue attention to the ads. This activity is strictly prohibited in order to avoid potential inflation of advertiser costs.

OJR reserves the right to remove content from, and delete the accounts of, those registered users who violate these rules. In addition, OJR reserves the right to publish or otherwise release the registration information of individuals who violate these rules.
