We're an online-only newsmagazine on Bainbridge Island, Washington, a community of about 20,000 located a half-hour ferry ride across Puget Sound from Seattle. We launched our site in March, 2005.
We cover breaking news and features relating to Bainbridge Island and, since about half our population commutes daily to downtown Seattle, we also offer content for the commuting audience. Our articles focus on family life, education, transportation, growth, politics, travel, profiles of local personalities, business and shopping, etc.
Our audience has a high degree of highly-educated, politically active and aware professionals who are vocal and opinionated. We have a reputation for offering our readers not only timely, well-researched articles, but often dozens of posted comments from the community, from all ages. A recent article about a teen party busted for underage drinking garnered over 250 comments.
bainbridgebuzz.com is published by two women, Cathy Nickum and Althea Paulson, both 52 years of age, residents of Bainbridge Island. Nickum has been a professional journalist for over 25 years, and Paulson has been an attorney and writer for that length of time. Between them, they have five teenagers and are active in the local community.
