I am an Assistant Professor at USC's Marshall School of Business where I do research on social processes for transforming deviation into innovation and teach management and strategy. My research focuses on the role that 'objective' stories play in legitimating new things and ideas, and this takes me to a study of interactions between reporters and their sources at firms. Specifically, I explore how the everyday practice of relying on sources with complicated motivations that are at least partially self-serving introduces subtle 'source costs' that bias stories away from the ideal of objectivity.
