Terrorist Attacks Against the U.S. -- A Reporter's Resource

For journalists and journalism educators following the terrorist attacks story, I've put together a list of links to Web resources you might find helpful.

The Targets - background on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the Pennsylvania plane crash site and other related information

Aviation Info - the FAA, an online database of licensed pilots, airline safety documents, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, information on airports and other aviation Web sites.

The Investigation - The list of suspected hijackers and the home pages for the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board, along with news sources in Florida, California, New Jersey, Germany and other areas the hijackers reportedly lived.

Terrorism Info - Online databases of experts in terrorism and Web sites that specialize in analyzing terrorist groups.

News Sites - A list of the Web pages of the major national news organizations covering the story, along with Internet news aggregation services and selected other media sites.

The Aftermath - Information on survivors and other follow-up stories

Other Link Collections - Other lists that journalism groups and other organizations put together on Internet resources of use to reporters working the story.

Tips For Reporters - Guides to covering disasters and major crises and advice on ethical and professional issues journalists encounter in a story like this.

The Media Coverage - Links to sites that have archived the front pages of newspapers and screen shots of Web news sites since Sept. 11.

The Internet Coverage - A list of stories analyzing how online news sites covered the story, as well as the role played by non-traditional online information sources.

I put a menu of links to all these topics at the top of the page, and I've tried to be relatively selective in the links listed so you can more quickly find what you need. The page is also devoid of graphics, so it should load quickly.

I started the page the day of the attacks and update it daily. So if you have any suggestions for additional links I should include, please send them to me at grabs@uclink.berkeley.edu.
